All About the MIK System and MIK 2.0: Smart One-Click Mounting

Whether you cycle to work every day, run errands, or simply enjoy a leisurely ride. With the MIK system you can attach your bike bag or basket to your bicycle quickly and securely. In this article, youโ€™ll discover everything about how MIK works, the advantages over other mounting systems, the innovations in MIK 2.0, and the systemโ€™s compatibility.

What is the MIK System and how does it work?

MIK stands for Mounting Is Key and is a universal click system for quickly attaching and removing bicycle accessories such as bags and baskets. It always consists of two parts:

  • MIK Adapter Plate: New Looxs MIK bags always come with an integrated MIK adapter plate. Which is attached to the underside of the bag or basket.
  • MIK Carrier: This is the luggage carrier on your bicycle. Take a close look to see if it says MIK. If it does, your carrier is suitable for bags and baskets with the MIK system. If it doesnโ€™t say MIK, you can mount a MIK carrier plate onto your existing luggage carrier. Allowing you to use the system. This carrier plate is sold separately.

What is the difference between MIK and MIK 2.0?

The biggest difference compared to the original MIK system is that the MIK 2.0 adapter plate is equipped with a locking function. This allows you to lock your bicycle accessories with a key. Every bag or basket with a MIK 2.0 adapter plate comes with two keys: the MIK Key S and the MIK Key L.

MIK Key S

As the name suggests, this key is small and compa ct. It is ideal if you often take your bag with you or remove it from the luggage carrier regularly. You can also choose to leave the key in the adapter plate, so itโ€™s always within easy reach when you detach or reattach your bag.

This key is extendable and therefore longer than the smaller version. It has been specially designed for larger accessories that remain on the bicycle, such as baskets.

Does MIK 2.0 fit my luggage carrier?

Itโ€™s good to know that the new 2.0 adapter plate is compatible with the original MIK system. If your luggage carrier is MIK-compatible, it will also fit a bag with a MIK 2.0 adapter. This also applies to bicycles with a MIK HD luggage carrier. HD stands for heavy duty โ€“ these are carriers specially designed for higher weight capacity. Bags and baskets with a MIK 2.0 adapter can also be mounted on these carriers.

Other attachment systems

In addition to the MIK mounting system, there are many other ways to attach your bag or basket to the luggage carrier. At New Looxs, we offer a wide range of systems, ensuring there is always a suitable option for you and your bicycle. First, there are bags that attach with straps. This is ideal if you always leave your bag on the bike. Itโ€™s simple, fits almost any bicycle, and requires no additional accessories. There are also other mounting systems that work with an integrated adapter plate, like Racktime.

Frequently asked questions

Is my bike compatible with MIK or MIK 2.0?

You can easily check if your bike is compatible with MIK. Look at your luggage carrier: if ‘MIK’ is engraved or stamped on the frame, you have a MIK-compatible carrier. Both a bag or basket with the original MIK system and a MIK 2.0 adapter will fit this carrier. Even if your carrier says MIK HD, you can still choose a bag with a MIK system.

If thereโ€™s no MIK marking on the luggage carrier, you can still use the system by mounting a separate MIK carrier plate. This fits on almost all standard luggage carriers. Once the carrier plate is installed, you can attach a bag with a MIK system to your luggage carrier.

Which bags feature the MIK system?

At New Looxs, we currently offer bags with both the original MIK mounting system and the MIK 2.0 system. This is due to stock availability; both systems work perfectly, and we are gradually transitioning each bag to the 2.0 system. On the New Looxs website, you can see at product level whether a bag has the original or the 2.0 system. This information is included in the title, the description, and the article number. Bags with the original adapter have an article number ending in MIK, while bags with a 2.0 adapter have an article number ending in MIK2.

How do I know if my pannier has a MIK 2.0 system?

At New Looxs, weโ€™ve done everything possible to make this as clear as possible. We always indicate it on the packaging, clearly mention it on the product pages of our website, and itโ€™s also clearly reflected in the article numbers. Bags with the original adapter have an article number ending in MIK, while bags with a 2.0 adapter have an article number ending in MIK2. A MIK 2.0 bag in stores can therefore be identified by the packaging or by the fact that keys are included with the bag. Of course, you can also check with your local bike shop.

Please note!

On our own website, we ensure that the product information is always accurate. We do not manage this for third-party websites selling our products. We try to check this as much as possible, but itโ€™s not always feasible. So please pay close attention when purchasing a new MIK bag to see which version it is: a bag with the original MIK adapter or a bag with a MIK 2.0 adapter.
